STUDIO ASSIGNMENT: ORGANIC AND GEOMETRIC COLLAGE
Materials: Paper Scissors or E-acto knife Glue Old magazine (I get mine from a discard pile at our school library)
1. Create a collage by covering a paper with magazine photos. Use GEOMETRIC shapes (squares, rectangles or long rectangular strips) and glue down so that no background paper shows. You'll probably want to overlap the edges a bit. I recommend that you limit the colors to 3 maximum, avoiding white.
2. Then, you'll draw some thumbnail sketches of an ORGANIC shape design. Select your best one and cut it out of white paper. Use an X-acto knife if you need to cut designs out of the center of the paper. Use the scissors when you can as they are easier to manage. Play around with the cut paper pieces BEFORE you glue. Make sure the magazine colors are the STAR of the artwork.
